Jams, Jellies, Preserves & Pickles!

Speaking of mason jars and canning… a fresh batch of books recently arrived at our Mississippi shop including two books on making your own preserves! The delicious recipes cover the basics and include some more adventurous (and mouth-watering!) flavors like rose hip jelly, lemon and fig marmalade, pear and chocolate jam or pumpkin and vanilla jam. There are even recipes for chutneys, relishes, pickles, nectar and chutneys. Who wants to have a canning party?!

Mason Jars

You’ve probably noticed our vast collection of Mason jars scattered around both of our stores.  We love Mason jars not only for their antique and industrial look, but for their versatility and functionality.

Mason jars were first manufactured in 1858 for the purpose of canning.  New productions of these jars are still available today, but the antique jars are the ones to keep an eye out for (some have sold for as much as $30,000!)  They’re one of our handiest tools, whether they’re holding our rubber bands or a fresh arrangements of dahlias.

We love all the different ways these people have displayed their jars:

New Arrivals!

So many fantastic new products have started arriving for Fall… One of our favorites is a delicious new collection of candles and body products by K. Hall.  The packaging and the scents are perfectly clean. And the best part? They are handmade in St. Louis using natural ingredients! Both of our shops are carrying their bath salts, bubble bath, shea butter hand lotion, hand salve, oatmeal soap and the candles in glass jars and travel size tins. The bath salts are made with oatmeal and milk and scented with vanilla and vetiver.  The candles are made with soy and vegetable wax and are also scented with milk, oatmeal, vanilla and vetiver. We’ve been burning one down in the Pearl and we are loving it! Excellent for keeping and gifting! (All photos by K. Hall Designs)
